We live in the town of Ladysmith on Vancouver Island. Ladysmith is a pretty,(one of the ten
prettiest in Canada, according to Harrowsmith Magazine!) well maintained town that stands
above the Island Highway showing its turn of the century heritage. It is an hour's drive north of
the provincial capital, Victoria. Ferries interconnecting the Gulf Islands start from here. It is a
thirty minute drive to the ferry terminals of Nanaimo with connections to Vancouver. Ninety
minutes north up the Parkway will take you to Comox with ferries to Powell River and the
Sunshine Coast.
Victoria itself is known as the Garden City with its harbour, its parks and historical buildings.
Ferries come here from Vancouver, Port Angeles and Seattle.
Pacific Rim Park with its magnificent beaches and wild scenery is just a couple of hours away
to the west. To the north is Mount Washington with great skiing in the winter and hiking at
other times. Campbell River, which is known as the salmon fishing capital, is just 90 minutes
along the new parkway. Our house is a two storey, two bedroom, two bathroom house, with electric heating and
cooking. The second floor contains the living room, kitchen, master bedroom and bathroom
with bath and shower. Off the living room is a sundeck. From this floor there are wide views of
the harbour, islands and mountains. Sunrises can be spectacular. The ground floor has a
guest bedroom with a double bed, a bathroom with shower and an activity room with sofas,
book cases, computer, TV and VCR/DVD player. Leading off from this room is a patio with
seating. The yard is small with easy maintenance lawn and flower beds. We have a '98 Chrysler Intrepid which could be part of the exchange. From the house It is just a five minute walk to the town centre and ten to the beach area. All
day to day shopping is available as is a library,a swimming pool with hot tub and a weight
room. There are several good quality restaurants and pubs in and out of town. Ladysmith has chapters of the Lions, Eagles, Rotary, Kinsmen and Probus. There s also a
branch of the Canadian Legion . We are newly retired teachers and are interested in exchanges almost anywhere for any
length of time. Non smokers only and no pets, please. |
