We are Liana and Bill, a retired, non-smoking, professional couple. Our large, modern, rural home sits amid 45 picturesque acres on a hilltop in the lovely Northumberland Hills, east of Toronto, and near to the old Lake Ontario port of Brighton, adjacent to Presqu'ile provincial park, a birder's paradise during migration seasons. Deer, wild turkeys, and a plethora of hummingbirds, woodpeckers, jays, doves, and songbirds share the property with us. The house's open concept ground floor has a LR with woodburning F/P and piano, DR, den/office, kitchen/pantry, and Master BR suite with king bed, gas F/P, whirlpool, shower, double sinks, walk-in closet, and sitting room. French doors open to a spacious deck with chairs and lounges, gas BBQ, and a 15/30 mile view of the rolling countryside to the north and northeast. Two bedrooms and a second bath are on the upper floor. Cars include a 2001 Cadillac Seville, a 2004 Chryler Town & Country 4-WD, and a 1976 XJ-6 Jaguar "fun car" for short trips to town or the golf course. The Chrysler comes complete with bike-rack and two bicycles. A nature centre illustrating the area's drumlins and eskers, and including walking trails, is minutes from our home, as are nice beaches and many golf courses. Our area offers quiet country relaxation but, centrally located, it will also provide a homebase for a variety of interesting excursions, daytrips, or overnight visits. We are just 4 km. off the main express route between Toronto and Ottawa/Montreal, an hour and a quarter by car - or car and commuter train - to the former, three hours more-or-less to the latter two. The lovely Kawartha Lakes vacation area is an hour north of us and another hour north of that is Algonquin Park, nearly 8000 square kilometres of wilderness forests, lakes, and rivers. Peterborough, Belleville, and Kingston are the nearby mid-sized cities. Niagara Falls, the Shaw Festival at Niagara-on-the-Lake, and the renowned Stratford Festival are all easy day-trips. We are 75 minutes to the border of northern New York State, offering easy access to the City of Syracuse, the Finger Lakes region, and the Lake Placid area.Newly retired, we are especially interested in the U.K., Europe, and Australia/N.Z., but we are looking to add a little adventure to our lives and will consider all offers. |
