Belle-Isle en Terre is a pretty village, situated at the confluence of the LeGuer and LeGoic rivers, in the midst of a lightly wooded landscape, providing many excellent walks. In addition to the Mairie and Post Office, the village has a good restaurant, a supermarket, bank, pharmacy and two bakers, as well as an English-speaking doctor, a dentist & physiotherapist. Despite its rural nature the village is, in fact, only 1km from the RN12 motorway. Several historic towns - Morlaix, St Brieuc, Guingamp - and many beaches & harbours, plus the ferry ports of Roscoff & St Malo, are within an hour’s drive.

Our house was built in 2001, on a 1000sqm garden plot, at the edge of the hamlet of Loguellou. It has double-glazing, security blind and central heating so is comfortable all the year round. The lounge has triple-aspect patio windows, with wide views over the surrounding fields & woods. The adjoining kitchen is fully equipped. There is a double bedroom on the ground floor, with adjoining toilet & bathroom. Three more bedrooms and another bathroom with toilet are on the first floor. There is ample parking, plus garage & laundry room on the lower ground floor. The house has satellite TV & long wave BBC radio reception.

Brittany is a beautiful, unspoiled part of France. There are no yobs, no muggings, no vandalism but many lakes, rivers & woodlands. Sorry - no discos!

We also have a small cottage on the river at Port de Pontrieux. Many yachts from Europe & UK moor up here during the winter as safe anchorage is guaranteed by the sea lock. They are joined by many other touring craft during the spring and summer. Several good restaurants line the opposite bank and there is a station from where the preserved steam railway runs down to the coast at Paimpol during the summer months. A horse-drawn charabanc takes tourists into the charming, medieval town of Pontrieux - a 10 minute walk.

The cottage is double-glazed and has central heating. Being only 20 metres from the river it has very attractive views, particularly from the large conservatory. The accommodation is on two floors. There are two double bedrooms, small study & toilet on the first floor. On the ground floor a sitting room, fully fitted kitchen, shower room, toilet and conservatory. There is a garage suitable for a modest size car but most “riverains” prefer to use the off-road parking provided by the commune.

Both homes are well-furnished. There are lots of books, satellite TV, BBC radio, VCR + tapes etc. Computers, with internet connection at the Belle-Isle house.
