Our home is a 3000 sq ft, well-
appointed 1880 Gothic Victorian
building in the city of Brantford, in
Southwestern Ontario. It has been
extensively modernised and updated,
while maintaining its original character
and features. It is furnished in
antiques and period furniture. Thee
are two bedrooms, both with ensuite
baths. The garden is fenced with a fish
pond, garden furniture and a gas BBQ. Brantford is a small city with a
population of about one hundred
thousand, situated at a distance of 1
hr from Toronto International Aiport, 1
1/2 hrs from Niagara Falls, 1 1/2 hrs
from Stratford, six hours from Ottawa,
eight hrs from Montreal and ten hours
from Quebec City. Buffalo is just 1 1/2
hrs away and New York City, too, is
within a comfortable driving distance.
Our neighbourhood is in the older
residential section of the city. It was
here in Brantford that Alexander
Graham Bell made the first telephone
call and the original Bell homestead
can still be visited. Brantford is also a
major aboriginal centre with an 18th
century Mohawk Chapel and Six
Nations Reserve a mere half hour
away. The Reserve with its gift stores
and annual Pow Wow offers a
fascinating glimpse of the richness of
aboriginal history and culture.
Our home is about five minutes from
an extensive trail system where deer
and other wildlife can be often
observed. Our two bicyles are
provided. If you are a golfer, you will
find numerous public courses in the
region. There is good trout and bass
fishing in the Grand River and in the
many local lakes and rivers. Paris,
Cambridge, London, Port Dover,
Oakville, Woodstock, Hamilton,
Kitchener and Waterloo are small
historic towns and cities which can be
visited within a short driving distance.
If you are interested in live theatre,
then Niagara on the Lake or Stratford
invite you to come and sample their
offerings in excellent Shaw and
Shakespeare productions. We are a retired professor and public
servant, looking for an exchange for a
period of 3-6 weeks in 2011. Tempt
us with an interesting destination. We
are adventurous.
