Monterey is a major tourist destination on the California coast 100 miles south of San Francisco. Our home is located on a quiet hilltop with a filtered view of Monterey Bay from the front and one side. It backs up against the Pebble Beach Forest Preserve. It is like living in the country, yet only minutes to downtown Monterey and Carmel. The home is 4 years old, split level, mission style, has 3,200 square feet with 4 bedrooms, 4 ½ baths (one in the garage/workshop), living room, dining room, family room, a modern kitchen and a large outdoor deck with a barbecue and sink. We have all the modern appliances, TVs, Internet, two refrigerators, three fireplaces, a backyard fire ring, but no air conditioning. We don’t need it as it seldom reaches 80 degrees. We have a housekeeper who comes every two weeks to clean and we would like to continue to use her while we are away. We are close to beaches, tide pools, Fisherman’s Wharf, Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. There are literally hundreds of restaurants to meet every taste and budget. The county has a number of fine wineries to visit. Agricultural tours are available. Music, art galleries and theater activities are abundant. The landscape teams with golf courses and outdoor activities. The quaint town of Carmel-By-The Sea is minutes away and a drive down the coast to Big Sir offers restaurants with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding redwood forests. The Santa Cruz Boardwalk is less than an hour away and Wild Things Animal Park in Salinas is only a half hour. Exploring the caves at the Pinnacles National Monument, hiking at Point Lobos State Nature Reserve and visiting the several nearby California Missions are a must. Monterey Bay Aquarium will have a new exhibit “Open Sea Galleries” in July. Special events scheduled in July are the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Pebble Beach Horse Show, Carmel Bach Festival and the Red Bull US Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway. Fishing or whale watching is available. Its always fun to drive up the coast to San Francisco for a day or longer. We are a Retired County CEO and a Freelance Writer and enjoy traveling. We would like to spend about six weeks in the Boston area. I am doing some research on my family roots and hope to unlock some family history there. My family lived in Charlestown and Woburn 300 years ago. We have kids and grandkids. Only three are young, 7, 9 and 14. One is in his late teens and the rest are in their twenties. All are respectful and well behaved. Some, hopefully, will visit us wherever we stay. So we are looking forward to a place where grandchildren are welcome, but most of the time will be by ourselves so it must be quiet too.
